West Texas A&M Fifth in Super Region Four Ranking

Buffs fall to 19th in AFCA Coaches Poll

CANYON, Texas – West Texas A&M remains fifth in the initial NCAA Super Region Four Poll, as released by the NCAA today.  In addition, they reside in 19th in the AFCA (American Football Coaches Association) Division II Coaches’ Poll, which was also released by the AFCA today.

Each of the top six teams in the final regional poll of the season will advance to the NCAA Division II football playoffs, with the top two seeded teams in each region receiving a first-round bye.

The LCS again features four teams in the 10-team poll, while the MIAA (Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletic Association) has four teams and the Great Northwest Athletic Conference has two teams represented. Other Lone Star Conference-member institutions listed in the rankings are Abilene Christian (No. 1), Texas A&M-Kingsville (No. 2) and Midwestern State (No. 7).

The Buffaloes fell to 19th in the AFCA Coaches Poll following last Saturday’s 41-34 loss to Abilene Christian.  The Buffs have been among the nation’s top 25 teams in each of the weekly polls during the 2010 season.  After ranking 11th in the AFCA preseason ranking, the Buffs moved up to eighth just prior to their season opening contest.  WT then held the ninth in the AFCA poll for four weeks, was seventh for two weeks before falling to 17th on Oct. 18 and maintained the 14th position for two weeks before dropping to 19th.

The 19th-ranked Buffaloes close out the 2010 regular season this Saturday, November 13, when they host East Central. Kickoff is set for 1:00 p.m. CDT at Kimbrough Memorial Stadium. The game may be heard over the Buffalo Radio Network and flagship station KGNC-AM in Amarillo, as well as KEYE-AM in Perryton and KJDL-AM in Lubbock.
