BOCA RATON - Lynn University’s men’s basketball team dropped a heartbreaker to North Georgia, 72-71, Monday night at LU’s de Hoernle Center. Chaun Tinney sunk a pair of free throws with 1.6 seconds remaining to give the Saints the victory. The Fighting Knights fall to 1-3 while North Georgia improves to 2-4.
After All-American Chris Hall made a midrange jumper off the glass putting Lynn up one at 71-70, the Saints called a timeout to setup a play. The play never got off as the inbounds passer slid several steps to his left and Lynn forward Chris Watson ran into Tinney and was called for the foul to give the Saints two free throws.
It was another balanced scoring effort for the Fighting Knights as five players scored in double figures, led by Terrell Williams with 15. Williams also recorded a game-high seven rebounds and went nine-of-11 from the free throw line.
Hall pitched in with 12 while Craig Brown, Jimmy Gaskins and Josh Garcia finished with 11 points apiece. Bo Jukic also posted a game-high seven boards.
The Fighting Knights were outshot from the field 46 percent to 43 percent but Lynn, who had been struggling from the line coming in, made 19-of-22 shots from the stripe to stay in it.
North Georgia was led by Carl Taylor with 22 points and Clarence Tillman with 13. Tinney’s game-winning foul shots were his only two points of the game.
Lynn is back in action Friday, December 3 when they travel to Valdosta, Ga., for the Valdosta State Classic. LU will take on VSU Friday night at 8 pm before facing No. 8 Alabama-Huntsville the following night at 6 pm.
