AVCA All-American Teams Announced

LEXINGTON, Ky. - The American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) is proud to announce the 30th annual AVCA All-America teams for NCAA Division II women's volleyball. The NSIC had three First Team All-Americans in CU's Megan Carlson and Cassie Haag. They were joined by NSIC Offensive Player of the Year Devin Diedrich of SMSU.

Devin Diedrich, a 6-0 middle blocker for Southwest Minnesota State University, is a junior from Braham, Minn. A previous NSIC Offensive Player of the Year and two-time All-NSIC honoree, Diedrich assisted the Mustangs all the way to the NCAA Central Region semifinals. Diedrich is ranked among the top in the nations for kills per set and hitting percentage and is the eighth player in the school's history to exceed the 1,000 mark for kills. This marks the second time Diedrich has received AVCA All-America honors.

Megan Carlson, a 5-9 outside hitter for Concordia University-St. Paul, is a junior from Andover, Minn. The two-time First-Team All-NSIC honoree helped guide the Golden Bears to their fourth consecutive NCAA Central Region championship. This marks the second time Carlson receives AVCA All-America honors, the first coming in 2009.

Cassie Haag, a 5-11 middle blocker for Concordia University-St. Paul, is a sophomore from Plymouth, Minn. Ranked among the top in the nation for hitting percentage, Haag assisted the Golden Bears in earning their fourth straight trip to the NCAA quarterfinals. An All-NSIC First-Team selection, this is the first time Haag has received AVCA All-America honors.

Amanda Konetchy - CU - S / Fr. / 5'7 / Victoria, Minnesota
Emily Palkert *$ - CU - MB / Sr. / 5'11 / Excelsior, Minnesota

Jennifer Hefner, a 6-1 middle blocker for Wayne State College (Neb.), is a senior from Archer, Neb.  She was named to an all-conference selection for the third consecutive season, ranking third in Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference action in blocks.  Hefner's play this year earned her a second straight placement on the AVCA All-America Second Team.

Amanda Konetchy, a 5-7 setter for Concordia University-St. Paul, is a freshman from Victoria, Minn.  She leads the nation in assists per set and was also named an All-NSIC performer in her rookie campaign.  Guiding her team to the quarterfinals of the NCAA tournament for the fourth consecutive season, this is her first AVCA All-America mention

Emily Palkert, a 5-11 middle blocker from Concordia-St. Paul, is a senior from Excelsior, Minn.  Palkert , an All-NSIC honoree, ranks in the top-five of the NSIC in hitting percentage, kills and points.  She was also named a Daktronics All-Central Region First-Team performer.  This marks the third consecutive year that Palkert has been named an AVCA All-American.

Mary Groth - SMSU - MB / So. / 6'1 / West Bend, Wisconsin
Kayla Koenecke - CU - RS/Opp. / Fr. / 5'9 / Delano, Minnesota

Amanda Beekman, a 6-0 outside hitter for Minnesota State University, is a senior from Marshall, Minn. An All-NSIC performer in 2010, Beekman ranked among the league's top-ten in kills and points per set, as well as hitting percentage. Beekman is receiving AVCA All-America honors for the first time.

Brooke Burmeister, a 5-10 outside hitter for Southwest Minnesota State University, is a sophomore from Lakefield, Minn. Ranked among the nation's best in kills per set, the All-NSIC performer also sat among the top-five in the league in kills and points per set. This marks the first time Burmeister has received AVCA All-America honors.

Mary Groth, a 6-1 middle blocker for Southwest Minnesota State University, is a sophomore from West Bend, Wis. Groth, a member of the NSIC All-Conference team, ranked in the top-25 nationally in kills per set, while sitting second in the league in both kills and points per set for the Mustangs. Groth is a first-time AVCA All-American.

Kayla Koenecke, a 5-9 right side hitter for Concordia University-St. Paul, is a freshman from Delano, Minn. Koenecke made a big impact for the Golden Bears in her rookie campaign, ranking second in the conference and also among the national leaders in hitting percentage, en route to garnering NSIC All-Conference honors. Koenecke earns her first AVCA All-America honor.
