Bloomsburg University Earns Bid to NCAA Division II Football Playoffs

BLOOMSBURG—The Bloomsburg University football team earned its eighth trip in school history to the NCAA Division II playoffs on Sunday. The Huskies were selected as the sixth seed from Super Region One and will face third seed California (PA) on Saturday, Nov.20 at a time to be announced.

Earning the top two seeds and first round byes were Kutztown and Mercyhurst, while Shepherd (WV) is the fourth seed, while Shaw is the fifth seed. Shepherd will host Shaw On Nov. 20 with the winner advancing to face Kutztown, while the winner of the BU-Cal game will face Mercyhurst.

Bloomsburg, 9-2, will be making their seventh trip to the NCAA Division II playoffs under head coach Danny Hale and second trip in the last three seasons. The Huskies were seeded second last week in the regional rankings, but lost in the PSAC championship game to Mercyhurst, 56-37, precipitating the drop in the rankings.

The Huskies faced the Vulcans in the NCAA Super Region One finals back in 2008 losing by a score of 27-24. Bloomsburg has previously advanced to the NCAA championship game in 2000 and the national semi-finals in 1985 and 2006. Bloomsburg has also made NCAA playoff appearances in 1996,2001 and 2005.
