Benson Garners Second CACC Honorable Mention
New Haven, CT – (11/8/2010) – Sophomore middle hitter Cassie Benson (Rosamond, CA) garnered her second honorable mention for the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Player of the Week after one of her best weeks of collegiate competition. Benson compiled 31 kills with a .237 (31K-13E-76TA) hitting percentage over three matches, including 17 kills, two aces, and six blocks against Felician College on November 4.
Benson totaled 31 kills, a .237 (31K-13E-76TA) hitting percentage, two aces, and 15 blocks in a three-match week for Chestnut Hill College (5-25, 2-17), but it was a 17-kill, six-block performance in a win over Felician College that helped her to her second CACC honorable mention. Behind Benson’s season-best performance, the Griffins scored their second CACC triumph of the season with a 3-1 (25-10, 25-21, 19-25, 25-20) win over the Golden Falcons. The women’s volleyball team finished the 2010 season at 5-25 overall which included their best CACC record since joining the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division II in 2007; 2-17. Benson finished the year as the team leader in kills (198K-121E-536TA, .144) and blocks (73); she averaged a team-high 2.5 points-per-set.
