Pitt-Johnstown Mountain Cat senior guard Danny Branch (Washington, D.C.) was named WVIAC Men's Basketball Co-Player of the Week with Concord (WV) University's Javaughn Acree-Manuel after scoring 23 points in last Tuesday's victory over the University of Charleston (WV).
Branch posted a big effort during Pitt-Johnstown's 85-79 league win against Charleston with 23 points, three rebounds, and eight assists. Branch hit on 10 of 16 field goals, including all seven his of two-point tries, on his way to helping the Mountain Cats overcome a 47-38 halftime deficit.
Acree-Manuel averaged 25.5 points, 4.5 rebounds, 3.0 assists, and 2.5 steals per game as Concord picked-up victories over local rivals Bluefield State (WV) College and Bluefield (VA) College. The junior scored 37 points on Friday against Bluefield State and added a 16-point, six assist, and five rebound outing on Saturday versus Bluefield College. On the week, Acree-Manuel connected on 17 of 34 field goals and 9 of 13 free throws. He hit on eight three-pointers during the unbeaten week, including seven in win over Bluefield State.
Branch is the second Pitt-Johnstown men's basketball player to garner player of the week honors this season. Nick Novak (Murrysville, Pa.) was named the conference's co-player of the week on November 15.
