Hague is first Flyer in 11 years to win title; Lewis finishes fifth in team standings.
Kenosha, Wis. – Lewis University senior Kathryn Hague (Chicago, Ill./Mt. Assisi) became the first Flyer in 11 years to capture the Great Lakes Valley Conference women’s cross country championship, as the Chicago, Ill., native won the 6K race in 21:29 at UW-Parkside’s Wayne E. Dannehl Cross Country Course on Saturday (Nov. 6) afternoon.
Hague’s time of 21:29 was the third fastest time in GLVC history. Marianna Vidovic was the last Flyer to win the overall title in 1999.
Hague was not the only Flyer to earn accolades on Saturday, as sophomore Amy Clawson (Mahomet, Ill./Mahomet-Seymour) was named to the GLVC All-Conference team, following her 13th-place finish of 22:43.
“Kathryn is running with a ton of confidence,” Lewis head women’s cross country coach Dana Schwarting said. “We’ve been telling her that she’s this good, and now she’s beginning to see how good she can be.
“She just dominated from start to finish and it was really fun to watch.”
Bellarmine won the overall title with 52 points, while the Flyers finished fifth as a team with 114 points.
Lewis junior Cecilia Garcia (Edward, Colo./Battle Mountain/Mesa State) placed 24th overall with a time of 23:20, while freshman Krysten Sebby (Yorkville, Ill./Yorkville) earned a 35th-place mark of 23:52. Lewis junior Ashley Lucas (Elgin, Ill./St. Edward) rounded out the Flyer scoring with a 41st-place time of 23:56.
Lewis returns to action in two weeks, as the Flyers head to Louisville, Ky., to participate in the NCAA Midwest Regionals for a 10 a.m. (EST) start.
