Huskisson earns All-GLVC honors with sixth place showing at league meet

KENOSHA, Wis. – Missouri S&T sophomore David Huskisson recorded the highest finisher ever for a Miner runner at the Great Lakes Valley Conference Championships Saturday, as he came in sixth place at the conference meet held at the University of Wisconsin-Parkside.

Huskisson posted a time of 25:16 on the eight-kilometer course to earn his first All-GLVC honor. He finished 35 seconds in back of race winner Jaime Villa Zapatero of Drury University and was able to nose out Zapatero’s teammate, Steven Busch, by two seconds to end up in sixth.

The Miners as a team placed sixth overall at the conference meet that was won by Southern Indiana. Eric Fairbairn was S&T’s next finisher in 28th place overall in 26:05, followed by Jacob Taylor in 39th place in 26:31. The Miners’ top five was rounded out by Grant Brown in 45th place in 26:39 and Brendan Smith in 52nd in 26:55.

Southern Indiana won its sixth straight GLVC title with a total of 36 points. The Screaming Eagles were followed in the team standings by Drury, Bellarmine, Wisconsin-Parkside and Lewis.

Missouri S&T’s next competition will take place Nov. 20 at the NCAA Division II Midwest Regional in Louisville, Ky.
