NORTH ANDOVER, MA – For the second straight year, Alyssa Pickert (Tinley Park, IL) was named the Northeast-10 Libero of the Year, while Molly Cindric (Westlake Village, CA) earned first-team all-conference honors for the fourth straight season.
Pickert was also named to the all-conference team for the third straight year, earning second team honors.
"We are very proud of Molly and Alyssa for being recognized for their play this season by the Northeast-10 Conference coaches,” said head coach Joey Pacis.
Despite missing the first seven matches due to injury, Pickert ranked second in the conference with 5.28 digs per set, netting 15 or more digs in 16 of 18 matches and was the NE-10 Libero of the Week on November 2. She became the first player in program history to register 2,000 digs in her career on October 27. Pickert, who was the first volleyball player to earn a major conference honor, is now the first-ever two-time NE-10 Libero of the Year in school history.
“A volleyball team's success comes down to ball control, and from day one, Alyssa elevated Merrimack's to a higher level. It speaks to her determination and execution on the court to be honored by my colleagues as the Libero of the Year and to also receive 2nd team All-Conference honors.”
Notching 13 double-doubles this season, Cindric was named the Northeast-10 Player of the Week on October 18, October 25, and November 2, leading the Warriors back into the playoff picture. Setting the school record for kills in a career, she ranked second in the conference with 3.68 kills per set, trailing only New Haven’s Sara Malmlov, who was named the NE-10 Player of the Year. The first All-American in program history, Cindric graduates as a four-time first-team all-conference selection.
“Unequivocally, Molly is the best all-around player to ever play for Merrimack College,” said Pacis. “For her to receive her fourth first-team all-conference award solidifies our feelings about what she has provided to our program this past season and the last three.”
Merrimack opens Northeast-10 Tournament action Tuesday at 7 p.m. against top-ranked New Haven in the quarterfinals.
