EDMOND (Nov. 17) – Central Oklahoma ended the fall season ranked No. 8 in the Golf World/NGA Division II Women’s Coaches’ Poll that was released Wednesday.
The Bronchos of third-year head coach Michael Bond had 239 points in the poll and were one of three Lone Star Conference teams in the top 25. Defending league champion Tarleton State was third and Northeastern State was tied for 20th.
Nova Southeastern received all 15 first-place votes and finished with 375 points in earning the No. 1 ranking, followed by Florida Southern.
The Bronchos enjoyed a stellar fall, winning their own tournament – the UCO/Mahogany Classic – while finishing second, third and fourth in their other three events. UCO had a 302.2 scoring average for the fall and had the three lowest rounds in school history (287, 289, 293).
Juniors Emily Leahey and Erica Bensch led the Bronchos. Leahey had a 75.13 scoring average with top-12 finishes in all four tournaments, while Bensch had a 75.75 average with three top-seven showings.
UCO opens the 2011 portion of their schedule at the St. Edward’s Classic on Feb. 28-March 1.

EDMOND (Nov. 17) – A dominating fall campaign has earned Central Oklahoma the No. 7 ranking the final Golf World/Nike Golf Division II Men’s Coaches’ Poll, it was announced Wednesday.
The Bronchos earned one first-place vote and finished with 275 points in the balloting for selected coaches from around the country. North Alabama topped the poll with 410 points, followed by Chico State and Lynn.
Only one other Lone Star Conference team was included in the poll, with defending league champion Abilene Christian coming in fifth.
UCO put together a sensational fall campaign under 10th-year head coach Dax Johnston, winning four of five tournaments. The Bronchos finished an astounding 42-under-par, averaging 281.7 strokes a round.
Five players averaged less than 72, with senior Colby Shrum’s sizzling 69.69 average with top-six finishes in all five tournaments leading the way. Sophomore Josh Creel won two tournaments and had a 70.15 average, while senior Matt Charlson (71.0), sophomore Dillon Rust (71.2) and junior Andrew Green (71.3) were all under 72.
