HPU's Kyra Pelayo Named First-Team All-West Region

Spokane, WA (11/24/10) – HPU libero Kyra Pelayo has been selected to the 2010 NCAA Division II Women’s Volleyball West Region First Team. Pelayo, a junior from San Jose, CA, is now eligible for a selection to the NCAA All-America Team.

This marks HPU’s first All-Region selection since Barbara Martin earned First-Team honors in 2005. Pelayo has already been named the 2010 PacWest Libero of the Year, and she currently ranks third in the nation in digs per set (6.72). Her 598 total digs shattered the HPU single-season record. She recorded 30 or more digs in six matches this season, posting a season-high 49 digs versus Montana State Billings (9/3).

Pelayo led HPU to an 18-6 overall record, the most wins since 2005. HPU again finished third in the PacWest with a 12-4 conference record.
