Mars Hill Loses at No. 4 Lander

Young scores game-high 26 points

GREENWOOD - The fourth-ranked Lander women's basketball remained undefeated Tuesday night when the Lady Bearcats defeated Mars Hill College, 81-69, in a non-conference game in Horne Arena. Lander improves to 3-0, while Mars Hill evens its record at 1-1.

Shannon McKever led the Bearcat attack with 20 points, 12 rebounds and six blocked shots, while Tasheba Butler added 15 points and eight rebounds, and Jasmine Judge 12 points, six rebounds and four assists. Brittni Johnson had five assists.

Mars Hill's Brittini Young led all scorers with 26 points, while grabbing six rebounds. Taylor Deal had 11 points and nine rebounds.

Lander connected on 33-of-73 shots for 45.2 percent, including 7-of-22 threes for 31.8 percent. The Lady Bearcats made 8-of-14 free throws for 57.1 percent.

Mars Hill made 24-of-70 from the floor for 34.3 percent, including 7-of-18 three for 38.9 percent. MHC was 14-of-19 from the free throw line for 73.7 percent.

The Lions will host Converse on Friday on the first day of the Biltmore Farms/Mars Hill Classic at 6 p.m.
