The Flight Plan - Lewis Flyers

Women's volleyball looks to capture GLVC regular season title, cross country competes in the GLVC Championships, and men's and women's basketball continue exhibition contests; highlighting this week's action.

Men's Soccer: The men's soccer team opened up the 2010 GLVC Tournament with a 3-0 upset loss against the No. 8 seed Indianapolis on Sunday afternoon at the Lewis Soccer Field. The Greyhounds scored two goals in the opening frame before adding the third goal in the second half. The Flyers are now 10-6-1 on the season and will await word of a possible NCAA Regional bid.

Women's Volleyball: The No. 11 women's volleyball team heads into the final weekend of the regular season alone in first place in the GLVC standings after a 3-1 win over UW-Parkside on Tuesday and a 3-0 sweep of Maryville on Friday. Senior Lauren Seliga posted a double-double of 16 digs and 13 kills against UW-Parkside while graduate student Adria Phillips and freshman Amy Choi each added 15 digs. In the sweep over Maryville, Seliga and senior Kelly McConkey each totaled nine digs while senior setter Rachel Ruedi had 20 assists as the Flyers celebrated `Senior Night.' The Flyers head to Missouri this weekend to take on Rockhurst on Friday night and Drury on Saturday afternoon. Should the Flyers win out, Lewis will host the GLVC Tournament for the third-straight year.

Swimming: The Lewis swimming teams won 17 events last Friday in a non-conference meet at the Illinois Institute of Technology. Senior Allie Henges and freshman Sarah Kenis each won two races. Henges won the 200 freestyle (2:00.78) and the 100 backstroke (1:03.48) while Kenis earned victories in the 200 IM (2:14.65) and the 100 backstroke (1:11.12). The Flyers also won the women's 400 medley relay, women's 400 freestyle relay and the men's 400 freestyle relay.

Men's Basketball: The men's basketball team gave it their all in their first preseason game against No. 13 Illinois but came up just short falling 75-65. The Illini went on a 10-2 run over the final 2:26 for the win. Senior guard Dennis Thomas Jr. led the Flyers with 13 points while sophomore Chris McClellan added 12 points. Center Marty Strus chipped in 10 points, five rebounds and two blocks. Lewis is back in action on Nov. 7 as they take on DePaul for a 6 PM tip-off.
