FSU's Miles Picks Up GLIAC Weekly Recognition

Big Rapids, Mich. - Ferris State University junior defensive back William Miles (Stockton, Calif./Tokay) has been tabbed as this week's recipient of the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Defensive Player of the Week honor.

Miles tied a school record with three interceptions in the Bulldogs' heartbreaking 37-33 league road setback at Indianapolis last Saturday (Oct. 30) evening.  The junior college transfer's total included a 70-yard interception return for a touchdown in the second quarter, which was part of a stretch in which FSU scored 27 consecutive points.

The 5-11 Miles also intercepted a first half pass in the endzone to take away a Greyhound scoring opportunity.  His final interception came in the second half when he returned the ball to the Indianapolis 24-yard line to setup the Bulldogs' final score of the game.

Miles finished the contest with three tackles to go with his 94 interception return yards on the three picks.  His performance also helped the Bulldog secondary offset the loss of starting cornerback and one of the conference's leaders in pass defense this year in Antwian Windmon (Chicago, Ill./Morgan Park), who was injured the week prior and did not play.

A Stockton, Calif., native, Miles presently is listed second overall on the GLIAC leaders list in passes defended this year (1.33 pg.) with four interceptions and eight breakups in nine games. He presently has 26 total tackles with 18 solo stops this campaign.

The three interceptions by Miles matched the school single-game record previously set three different times by Dennis Bemis versus Grand Valley State (10/9/71), Chris Estrada against Wayne State (11/9/85) and most recently by DeRen Ellis in a matchup with Wayne State 10 years ago (9/23/00).  His 94 interception return yards fell 10 yards shy of tying

Charlie Pierson's school mark of 104 yards versus Michigan Tech in 1999 (10/23).

Miles' selection this week represents the second time a Bulldog player has claimed a league weekly award this year as current sophomore linebacker Tayo Moss (South Rockwood/Monroe St. Mary's) was also chosen as the GLIAC

Defensive Player of the Week following FSU's home win over Saginaw Valley State (Sept. 11) earlier this campaign.

FSU's regular-season home finale will be this Saturday (Nov. 6) when the Bulldogs host the Michigan Tech Huskies in GLIAC play at Top Taggart Field.  FSU will honor its 2010 senior class prior to their final home game, which is scheduled for a 2 p.m. (ET) kickoff.  Tickets will be available at the stadium.
