Augustana Wins Men's & Women's Cross Country Championship

Women's Championship Results

Augustana College won their third straight NSIC Cross Country Championships as the Viking's freshman Runa Falch knocked off two time defending champion in Morgan Place of Minnesota Duluth. Falch ran the 6K race in 21:10.91 to beat Place by ten seconds. This marks the first time this season Place has not won a race she participated in. Vikings Head Coach Tracy Hellman got his third nod for NSIC Coach of the Year, as he has yet to see his women's team not win the NSIC title since joining the league in 2008.

Falch trailed Place for much of the race but used a scorching final 1,000 meters to pull ahead.  The true freshman anchored Augustana's 39-point performance, which was just three points ahead of runner-up U-Mary. The Vikings finished in first, third, ninth and tenth place while U-Mary was fourth, seventh, eighth and 11th. Minnesota Duluth was a close third with 48 points with the second, fifth and sixth place finishers. The top five finishers in each race are used to determine the team champion. The NCAA Central Region meet will also be held on Wayne, Neb. on Saturday, November 20th.
