No. 21 UMSL Volleyball Falls Short in Five-Set Battle at Northern Kentucky

HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, KY., November 5, 2010 - The No. 21 ranked University of Missouri-St. Louis volleyball team dropped a 3-2 verdict at Northern Kentucky Friday night in Great Lakes Valley Conference action.

The host Norse won by set scores of 19-25, 25-14, 18-25, 25-13, 17-15 to hand the Tritons their second straight setback, marking the first time this season that UMSL has lost back-to-back matches. The Tritons slip to 19-6 overall with the loss, including 10-3 in the GLVC, while Northern Kentucky moves its ledger to 19-12, 9-4 in the league.

Junior Shelby Crawford pounded a career-high 18 kills, hitting at a .556 clip, while juniors Kelsie Rankin and Erin Higgins finished with 11 and 10 kills, respectively.

The Tritons hit .318 to the Norse's .293, but Northern Kentucky tallied 67 kills to UMSL's 60. The Tritons also owned an 8-2 blocking advantage with junior Weslie Gaff accounting for five blocks.

Freshman Anna McNulty registered 32 assists, while seniors Liz Cook and Carolyn Holstein had 10 digs each.

UMSL closes out the regular season tomorrow at Bellarmine in a 3 p.m. (EST) match.
