Bloomsburg Women's Soccer Earns Trip to NCAA Championship Tournament

BLOOMSBURG – After a 12-4-3 season, the Bloomsburg University women’s soccer team will be heading to the NCAA Division II Women's Soccer Championship tournament. The Huskies will face off against Kutztown University in an opening-round game on Friday, Nov. 12 at West Chester at a time to be announced. The winner of the game will face West Chester on Sunday in a second round game.

The NCAA announced the 48 qualifying teams and tournament pairings during an online selection show Monday night.

This season, the Huskies finished fourth in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) standings, but dropped their opening-round playoff match to The Rock 2-1 on Nov. 2.

“We will have a great approach to the first-round game,” says head coach Sandy Dickson. “The players have learned a lot about themselves as a team and how to manage a playoff experience this past week and they are looking forward to implementing that approach to the first-round game.”

Offensively, four players on the Bloomsburg roster have scored double digits in points in 2010. Katie Walczuk (Long Valley, NJ, West Morris Central), who is having a career year, leads the team in scoring with 30 points on 13 goals and four assists. Second in points is Tara Huber (Orefield, Parkland) with 22 points on nine goals and four assists. Kristine Preski (Philadelphia, Owen J. Roberts) and Natalie Adams (Wilkes-Barre, Holy Redeemer)are tied for third with 11 points. Preski has netted five goals and an assist with Adams posting two goals and seven assists.

Defensively, the trio of Preski, Ali McCrossin (Philadelphia, Little Flower) and Aimee Bux (Pottstown, Owen J. Roberts) have anchored a unit that has played well in front of starting goalkeeper Frances Nicoletti (Haddonfield, NJ, Haddonfield), allowing 16 goals. In her third season in net, Nicoletti is posting a goals-against-average of 0.83. She is 12-4-3 with 96 saves and eight shutouts. For her career, Nicoletti is fourth-best in program history with 14 shutouts.

“We are excited to represent our region in the NCAA tournament and are looking forward to the game,” comments Dickson.

Bloomsburg is making its first appearance in the NCAA championship tournament since 2008 when it los to Slippery Rock,4-0, in an opening round game.
