Mavericks Close Book on Falcon Invite

Mankato, Minn. --- The Minnesota State women’s swimming squad closed the book on the 2010 Falcon Invite hosted by the University of Wisconsin-River Falls at the University of Minnesota Aquatic Center yesterday afternoon and evening.  The two-day event was unscored.

Individually several Mavericks finished the day swimming in the finals, including:  freshman Nicole Bennett (third-place, 400-yard IM, 4:47.94; seventh-place, 200-yard breaststroke, 2:35.89), junior Emily Timm (second-place, 400-yard IM, 4:45.21; eighth-place, 100-yard fly, 1:00.21), sophomore Marissa Reeve (14th-place, 400-yard IM, 5:03.91; ninth-place, 1,650-yard freestyle, 18:42.53), freshman Alyssa Larson (12th-place, 400-yard IM, 5:00.13; 13th-place, 100-yard butterfly, 1:03.32), senior BrieAnna Simon (16th-place, 400-yard IM, 5:04.79), senior Kristin Hayes (12th-place, 100-yard freestyle, :54.99), junior Stef Edwards (14th-place, 100-yard freestyle, :55.49), freshman Nora Stauber (16th-place, 100-yard freestyle, :55.92), junior Megan Pickert (15th-place, 100-yard freestyle, :55.89), sophomore Amber McHugh (sixth-place, 200-yard breaststroke, 2:34.77), senior Heather Schulz (11th-place, 200-yard breaststroke, 2:35.81), senior Claire Bergman (13th-place, 200-yard breaststroke, 2:37.38), freshman Hannah Walsh (15th-place, 200-yard breaststroke, 2:40.49), freshman Ashley Ahn (ninth-place, 100-yard butterfly, 1:00.75), freshman Rachel Rubatt (14th-place, 100-yard butterfly, 1:03.51), sophomore Sarah Iannacone (16th-place, 1,650-yard freestyle, 19:37.71), sophomore Lauren Finley (18th-place, 1,650-yard freestyle, 20:45.82).

In the relays, MSU finished fifth in the 200-yard medley relay.  The squad, which was made up of sophomore Tabby Temperely, Bergman, Timm and Pickert touched in 1:53.69.  The Mavericks also had an eight-place finish in the race as Simon, McHugh, Ahn, and Stauber turned in a time of 1:57.63.

In the 400-yard freestyle relay the Mavericks turned in a fifth-place finish with a time of 3:44.07.  That relay team was made up of Hayes, Edwards, Stauber and Pickert.  MSU also swam to an eight-place finish as junior Jessy Stanton, Timm, Schulz and sophomore Kelsea Smith touched in 3:48.45.

In diving action, Minnesota State participated in the St. Cloud State Diving Invite and senior Janel Duffy led the way with a second-place finish in the three-meter dive (406.75) and a fourth-place finish in the one-meter dive (383.80).  Also diving was junior Beth Keskey (seventh-place, three-meter dive, 367.45; 10th-place, one-meter dive, 344.45), sophomore Catie Mahoney (ninth-place, three-meter dive 340.55; 12th-place, one-meter dive, 322.00) and sophomore Cristen Norman (12th-place, three-meter dive, 289.45; 13th-place, one-meter dive, 320.30).

The Mavericks return to the pool Dec. 29, when they travel to their annual winter training trip.
