Eastern New Mexico's Bear Selected ESPN Academic All-District

PORTALES, N.M.—  For the second time in his career, senior midfielder Edgar Bear (Houston, Texas/Ross S. Sterling HS) from the Eastern New Mexico University men’s soccer team has been selected First Team ESPN Academic All-District 6, for his outstanding efforts on the field and in the classroom. He was one of three Lone Star Conference players named to the first team, with five LSC players receiving honors out of the 25 overall selected to the first and second teams. Bear also was selected following the 2008 season.

To be eligible for the award, a student-athlete must maintain a cumulative GPA of at least 3.3 on a 4.0 scale, play in a minimum of half of the team’s contests and have been on the team at the institution for a minimum of a year.

A finance major, Bear ranks fourth in the LSC in assists. For the season, he has three goals, all coming in wins over Adams State, Wayland Baptist and West Texas A&M. Bear’s contributions helped the Greyhounds reach the NSCAA National Poll for the first time in team history, with ENMU ranking 17th and 23rd earlier in the season.

Bear and the Eastern New Mexico University men’s soccer team will close out their 2010 season on Friday, when they host second-ranked Midwestern State.
