2010 GSC Football Weekly Release

DELTA STATE SET TO HOST NCAA FOOTBALL PLAYOFF SEMIFINAL

Birmingham, AL—For the eighth time in nine seasons, the Gulf South Conference advanced a squad to the NCAA Division II Football Playoff Semi-Finals.
          
GSC Champion and Super Region 2 No. 2 seed Delta State (10-3) moved on to its first final four since 2006, upsetting No. 1 seed Albany State this past Saturday, 28-7.  DSU stormed back from an early 7-0 deficit to hand ASU its first loss of the season thanks to 21 second-half points.  The Statesmen advanced to their third overall NCAA Semi-Final round dating back to 2000.  The GSC has now placed a team in the Semi-Finals 27 times since 1975 and seeks to place a team in the Title game for the 16th overall time.
          
Next up for Delta State is Super Region 1 Champion Shepherd University (12-1).  DSU defends Parker Field at McCool Stadium this Saturday at 1:00 pm Central in a game that will be televised by CBS College Sports (check your local listings for availability).  The DSU/SU winner will move to the Championship Game versus the victor of the Northwest Missouri State at Minnesota Duluth contest.  The NCAA Title Game will be held at Braly Municipal Stadium in Florence, AL and will be televised on ESPN2 at 10:00 a.m.
