Lewis Men's Basketball vs. Benedictine Game Notes

Romeoville, Ill. - The Lewis University men's basketball team tips off the 2010-11 home campaign on Tuesday (Nov. 23) night, as the Flyers (2-3) welcome Benedictine (2-1) to Neil Carey Arena for a 7:30 p.m. start.
  
Tuesday's contest can be heard on WJOL (1340 AM), with Mark Vasko providing the play-by-play action for the Lewis Sports Network. Live stats, audio and video streaming can also be found on www.LewisFlyers.com.

Head Coaches: Lewis head men's basketball coach Scott Trost is in his fifth season at the helm of the Flyers and has a record of 70-51 (.579). In 13 seasons of coaching, Trost owns a mark of 223-137 (.619). Benedictine head coach Keith Bunkenburg, who is now in his 16th season as the Bulldogs' skipper, is 238-155 (.606).

All-Time Series: Lewis holds an 2-0 advantage over Benedictine in their all-time series.

Last Time We Met: Lewis senior forward Tarrie Monroe posted a double-double of 23 points and 14 rebounds to lift the host Flyers to the 70-53 win over Benedictine at Neil Carey Arena on January 3, 2000.

Last Time Out: Ferris State used a 9-2 run over the game's final four minutes to pick up the 64-61 come-from-behind win over Lewis on Saturday (Nov. 20). Lewis junior forward Jeron Lee came off the bench to score 18 points for the Flyers.

Home Openers: Lewis is undefeated in home openers under Trost with an unblemished mark of 4-0. The last time the Flyers lost a home lidlifter came on November 18, 2001, as Rockhurst earned the 65-60 (OT) win over Lewis.

Two Degrees Of Separation: Benedictine's lone defeat this season came against Illinois Wesleyan on November 15th. Trost coached Illinois Wesleyan from 2001-06.

1,000-Point Club: Senior guard Dennis Thomas needs 13 points to reach 1,000 tallies for his career.

Dead Eye: Junior point guard Chris McClellan currently sits as Lewis' all-time leader in free throw percentage, knocking down 90.1% (118-for-131) of his attempts. The Buffalo Grove, Ill., native has converted his last 18 attempts.

Welcome Back: Junior forward Lonnie Lawrence returns to the Lewis line-up after missing the entire 2009-10 campaign after tearing his left anterior cruciate ligament for the second time in his career.

1,000 Victories: Lewis needs seven more victories to reach the program's 1,000th all-time win.

Good Genes: Sophomore forward Matt Toth chose a different athletic path than his father Tom. Tom Toth played five years in the National Football League, including starting 12 games at right guard for Dan Marino and the Miami Dolphins in 1987.

New Number: Sophomore guard David Bryant has changed his number from 14 to 12 in honor of his late brother Kevin who played for Trost at Illinois Wesleyan from 2004-06.

Block Party: Junior center Marty Strus needs 32 blocks this season to break the career-record of 140 set by Austin Real (2000-04). In each of his first two seasons, Strus has broken the single-season record for blocks with 54 in 2009-10 and 50 in 2008-09.

Century Club: Chris McClellan's next three-pointer will be the 100th of his career, moving him into sole possession of 10th place in school-history for trifectas.

Bench Play: The Lewis bench, led by Lee (10.2 ppg.) and Toth (9.5 ppg.), is outscoring the opposing reserves, 26.2 to 15.0 in the Flyers' first five games.

Three's Company: Since the 2000-01 campaign, Lewis has made at least one three pointer in 293 straight games. The Flyers currently lead the GLVC with 38 three-pointers made this season.
