The University of Findlay men’s basketball team, ranked second in the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) poll, will be at home on Tuesday, December 7 to battle the University of Illinois-Springfield. The non-conference contest is scheduled to begin at 7:30 p.m. inside Croy Gymnasium.

The Series
The Oilers and Prairie Stars will be meeting for the first time in their school histories this Tuesday evening in Croy Gymnasium.
The last non-conference opponent to beat the Oilers on their home floor came during the second round of the 2007 NCAA Division II Tournament when the Norse from Northern Kentucky upended Findlay 60-56.
The last regular season loss to a non-conference opponent in Croy Gymnasium took place during the 1997-98 campaign.
The Oilers fell 77-69 to Saint Francis in the game.
The University of Findlay
The University of Findlay men’s basketball team, ranked second in the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) NCAA Division II poll, captured their first Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) victory of the season with an 84-63 win over Northwood University on Thursday, December 2 in Midland, Michigan.
The Oilers came out firing on all cylinders, racing out to a 42-30 on the strength of an 8-of-12 showing from the three point line.
In the second half, the Oilers continued to their hot shooting and ended up connecting on a season-high 13-of-24 (54.2%) shots from the three point line.
Overall, they were successful on 28-of-53 (52.8%) field goal attempts and came away with 12 steals on the defensive side of the ball.
Senior guard Nathan Hyde tied his season-high with 25 points, the second straight game he has recorded that total, and hit 5-of-6 three pointers and 8-of-10 shots overall in the game.
Sophomore guard Aaron Robinson added a season-high 19 points while senior forward Tyler Sparks contributed a season-high 11 points in the win as well.
Junior guard Kyle Caiola also reached double figures with ten points while freshman guard Sean Samsel came off the bench to hit three, three pointers en route to nine points.
The Timberwolves were led by Booker Stoudmire’s 18 points.
University of Illinois-Springfield
The Prairie Stars are currently 3-4 on the season and are coming off of a 74-54 loss to Missouri S&T.
On the season, Michael Fakuade leads the team and is averaging 16.3 points and 13.0 rebounds per game.
Lester Hart (12.6) and Chigozie Umeadi (10.0) are also averaging double figures on the year.
Climbing The Ladder
Senior guard Nathan Hyde currently ranks 27th all-time in points scored at Findlay with 1,214. He trails Dale Creager (1974-77) in the rankings who scored 1,225 points.
Scoring In Bunches
The Oilers are averaging 86.0 points per game and have eight players on their roster averaging more than 6.0 points per game. Their point total is the best in the GLIAC.
Senior guard Nathan Hyde leads the way and is ranked fifth in the conference with a 16.2 points per game average while sophomore guard Aaron Robinson checks in 11th at 15.2 points per contest.
The Oilers have already topped the 80-point mark five times this season and have gone over 90 points three times.
Automatic From The Line
The Oilers are hitting 78.8 percent of their free throw attempts this season, good for first in the GLIAC.
Individually, senior guard Nathan Hyde ranks second in the GLIAC with a 96.6 percent shooting clip from the charity stripe while freshman forward Greg Kahlig (92.9%), junior guard Kyle Caiola (90.6%) and sophomore guard Aaron Robinson (90.0%) rank third, fourth and fifth in the league, respectively.
Draining Shots
The Oilers currently rank fourth in the GLIAC in field goal shooting percentage at 49.9 percent.
Grand Theft
The Oilers currently rank second in the GLIAC with 9.7 steals per game and have topped ten steals in three games thus far.
Individually, senior guard Nathan Hyde ranks tenth in the conference with 1.8 steals per game.

Junior guard Kyle Caiola ranks fifth in the GLIAC in three point shooting percentage, draining 58.3 percent of his attempts from long range.
Pounding The Boards
The Oilers are currently averaging 37.2 rebounds per game, good for fifth in the GLIAC.
Individually, sophomore guard Aaron Robinson leads the team and ranks 15th in the GLIAC with 6.0 rebounds per contest.
Putting Points On The Board
Junior guard Kyle Caiola has scored 78 points for the Oilers and now has 1,121 career points after scoring 1,043 at the University of Massachusetts-Lowell.
3-Point Watch
Senior guard Nathan Hyde has drained 216 career three pointers, ranking third all-time at Findlay. He trails Tyson McGlaughlin for second place, who connected on 238 triples from 2002-05.
Marc Bishop is the school record holder with 313 career three pointers.
Hyde is also on pace to set the school record for three point shooting percentage in a career as he has made 44.4 percent (216-of-487) of his triple tries.
Tyler Evans is currently the school record holder, hitting 43.5 percent (206-of-474) of his attempts from 2006-09.
Carving Out A Spot In The NCAA Record Book
Senior guard Nathan Hyde has hit 89.8 percent (246-of-274) of his free throw attempts during his career. As of right now, the mark is the sixth best ever in NCAA Division II basketball and is also the top mark in Oilers history as well.
Simply The Best
The Oilers have the best winning percentage in NCAA Division II competition since the year 2000, having won 268 games and lost only 53 for a percentage of .835.
Regular Season Home Winning Streak
The Oilers have won 94 straight regular season games in Croy Gymnasium with their last home loss coming against Gannon University on February 12, 2004 in 70-68 fashion.
Counting tournament play at home, the Oilers have won 59 straight games in Croy Gymnasium.
A Tough Place To Play
The Oilers are 500-106 (.825) in Croy Gymnasium since they starting playing home games there during the 1969-70 season.
In the past eight years, the Oilers are a staggering 127-2 at home for a winning percentage of .984.
Conference Championships
The Oilers have won nine GLIAC South Division titles in their 13 year affiliation with the conference and have also won five conference tournaments, capturing titles in 2010, 2009, 2007, 2005 and 2004.
National Elite
The Oilers have appeared in nine consecutive NCAA Division II National Tournaments with a 15-8 record, reaching the Elite Eight during the 2004-05 campaign and the Final Four in the 2008-09 season when they captured their first NCAA Division II National Championship.
Findlay also reached the Sweet 16 in 2007-08.
GLIAC Tournament Success
The Oilers currently sport an 21-5 overall record in the GLIAC Tournament, winning titles in 2010, 2009, 2007, 2005 and 2004.
Overall, Findlay has appeared in the championship game of the event seven times in the past eight years. They reached the finals in 2003, 2004, 2005, 2007, 2008, 2009 and 2010.
