Baseball Announces its Captains for 2011

Northwest Missouri State head baseball coach Darin Loe has announced the five captains for the Bearcats for this upcoming season. Geno DeAngelis, Landinn Eckhardt, Chris Green, Jayson Huett and Jeremy Tate will be the Bearcat captains this season.

DeAngelis, a junior infielder from Los Alamitos, Calif., transferred last season from Golden West Community College in Huntington Beach, Calif.

Eckhardt, a junior catcher, led the team with 31 runs batted in a season ago. The St. Joseph native was third on the squad with a .265 batting average and had 10 extra-base hits while playing in 53 of Northwest’s 54 games.

Green, who hails from Joplin, Mo., was an all-MIAA honorable mention performer last season. The senior pitcher led Northwest with an 8-5 record and recorded one shutout and three complete games. Green was third on the team last year with 30 strikeouts and was second in innings pitched with 72.1 innings.

Huett, a senior pitcher from Anaheim, Calif., was an MIAA honorable mention selection along with Green. Huett was tied for second in the league in 2010 with seven saves and his 64 strikeouts were the fifth-most in the conference. He led Northwest and was ninth in the MIAA with a 4.41 ERA. Huett also led the Bearcats in innings pitched (87.2) and strikeouts (64).

Tate, a senior from Liberty, Mo., made 13 appearances and 11 starts for the Bearcats last season on the mound. Tate went 4-4 with a 6.63 ERA and was second on the team with two complete games. Tate was second on the squad with 54.1 innings pitched and 34 strikeouts.

Northwest will begin the 2011 season on Feb. 26 and 27 when the team travels to Canyon, Texas to face West Texas A&M in a pair of doubleheaders. The Bearcats finished 20-34 last season and qualified for the MIAA Tournament.
