ESU Men’s Soccer Lands Three Players on Daktronics Division II Atlantic Region Team

EAST STROUDSBURG – Redshirt senior midfielders Danny Drago and Michael Kane and freshman back Khriswayne Wallace represent East Stroudsburg University on the Daktronics NCAA Division II Men’s Soccer Atlantic Region team, it was announced Tuesday.

Drago (Stroudsburg/Notre Dame), Kane (Stroudsburg/Stroudsburg) and Wallace (Westmoreland, Jamaica/Munro College) were all named to the All-Region second team after earning spots on the All-PSAC first team last week.

Drago was a two-time All-America selection at back on the Daktronics team in 2007 and 2008, which is nominated and voted on by sports information directors and the regional and national levels. This is his third All-Region nod and caps a career that included 88 starts, two PSAC championships and three NCAA Playoff appearances from 2006-10.

Kane is an All-Region choice for the second straight year after being named to the NSCAA (coaches association) third team at back in 2009. He moved to the midfield for his final year at ESU and had six goals and two assists, including game-winning goals in overtime against Gannon and Bloomsburg. He was a three-year starter and two-time first team All-PSAC honoree.

Wallace was the only underclassman on the All-PSAC first team and started all 20 games at center back for the Warriors, who tied Shippensburg 1-1 in the PSAC championship game before falling in penalty kicks. He helped ESU lead the PSAC with a 0.85 goals against average in the regular season, including eight shutouts in 18 games, and also had two assists.

This is the third time in four years that ESU has had at least three Daktronics All-Region selections but the first time in that span that the Warriors haven’t had a player selected to the first team.

Gannon forward Afrim Latifi, the region’s leading scorer with 15 goals and five assists, was named the Atlantic Region Player of the Year, repeating his selection as the PSAC Player of the Year. The 13 first team selections will advance to the national ballot for consideration on the Daktronics All-America team.
