HUNTSVILLE, Ala. -- Taking the field for the final time in 2010, the Alabama-Huntsville (8-8-0) women's soccer team failed to get on the scoreboard falling 1-0 to Shorter (10-7-0) on Monday afternoon at Charger Field.
Despite a 9-to-1 shot advantage, the Lady Chargers could get on the scoreboard in the first half on "Senior Day" and the scoreless tie carried into the half.
The Hawks caught a break early in the second half when a shot hit the crossbar and rebounded right to Brehisy Zungia, who tapped the ball in for the 1-0 lead at 64:32.
UAH missed on a golden chance later in the period to tie the score after a foul was called in the box. The ensuing penalty kick saw SC's Taylor Mays guess right diving to her left to stop the attempt just before it sailed inside the right post.
Lady Charger sophomore keeper Lauren Kelly (Huntsville) took the loss in net making six saves on the afternoon. Hays picked up the shutout for the Hawks with eight saves.
The loss wraps up the 2010 season for the Lady Chargers. Prior to the contest, the team honored seniors Paige Boersma (Harvest), Ashley MacWhirter (Red Deer, Alberta), and Lindsay Lee (Vernon, British Columbia) for their contributions to the program.
