NKU’s Eleby Named GLVC Men’s Basketball Player of the Week

INDIANAPOLIS – Northern Kentucky University senior guard Malcolm Eleby (Philadelphia, Pa./Franklin Learning Center) is the Great Lakes Valley Conference Men’s Basketball Player of the Week. Eleby, in addition to guiding the Norse to a pair of in-region victories last week, set a NKU single-game record by knocking down all 17 free throw attempts in a win over Charleston on Saturday.
For the week, he averaged 20.0 points, 7.0 rebounds, 2.0 assists and 2.0 steals in two games at the NKU John L. Griffin/Lions Club Classic. Eleby was named the most outstanding player of the event.

In NKU’s 51-44 victory over visiting Christian Brothers on Friday, Eleby scored 19 points and grabbed eight rebounds. He was 5-of-10 from the field and 9-of-11 from the free throw line. Eleby also chipped in an assist, steal and blocked shot in the win.

NKU topped Charleston 69-66 on Saturday behind Eleby’s 21 points, six rebounds, three assists and three steals. His 17 made free throws tied the NKU record held by Derek Fields and Brenden Stowers and broke the previous single-game record of consecutive makes from the line of 15 set by Dan Fleming in 1981.
Eleby shot 41.2 percent from the field in the two contests and was a combined 26-of-28 from the free throw line.

On the season, Eleby is averaging 17.3 points, 6.7 rebounds and 2.0 steals per game.

NKU (3-0) will next host No. 5 Grand Valley State on Saturday.

Other top performers in the GLVC last week included Bellarmine’s Jeremy Kendle, Drury’s Chris Parks, Kentucky Wesleyan’s Anthony Young,  Maryville’s Asa Toney, Quincy’s Andreas Coleman, Rockhurst’s Aaron Morrissey, Southern Indiana’s C.J. Trotter and UIndy’s Adrian Moss.
