Chargers Presented 2010 NE-10 Championship Trophy

South Easton, Mass. – In just the second year since the program was reintroduced as a varsity sport at the school, the University of New Haven's football team has earned the Northeast-10 Conference championship. The Chargers finished the year at 8-2 overall, and 6-2 in conference play.

The Chargers were awarded the 2010 Championship Trophy Wednesday night at New Haven's basketball doubleheader against American Int'l. Northeast-10 Commissioner Julie Ruppert was on hand to present the trophy to the team.

After dropping their Northeast-10 opener to Assumption, New Haven reeled off six straight wins before dropping their finale to Saint Anselm. During their winning streak, they defeated American International College, Bentley University, and Southern Connecticut State University, who all finished with identical conference records of 6-2. New Haven's 3-0 mark, under conference tie-breaking procedures, garnered them the distinction of 2010 champions.

Seven members of New Haven's football team received All-Conference First-Team accolades. Victor Jones (RB), James Malloy (OL), Chris Scifo (PK), and Dave Stedman (OL) were named to the Northeast-10 First Team Offense, while Desmond Anderson (DB), Charlie Hatchett (LB), and Scott Schultz (DL) were awarded First Team Defense honors. The Chargers also had three student-athletes named to the conference's All Rookie Team.

Additionally, New Haven's head coach, Peter Rossomando, was named Coach of the Year by the conference's head coaches.
