Knights’ Jones Selected GLVC Women’s Basketball Player of the Week

INDIANAPOLIS – Bellarmine University junior forward Lauren Jones (Crestwood, Ky./South Oldham/Austin Peay) is the Great Lakes Valley Conference Women’s Basketball Player of the Week. Jones earned Most Valuable Player honors at the United Electric/MetroMedical Solutions Tip-Off after helping the Knights to wins over Lake Erie and No. 16 Charleston.

In the two games over the weekend, Jones averaged a double-double with 24.5 points and 10.0 rebounds per game. She shot 42.9 percent from the field, 35.7 percent from behind the arc and was 20-of-23 from the free throw line.

In Bellarmine’s 91-82 overtime win over Lake Erie on Friday, Jones poured in 23 points and posted a game-high 14 rebounds. She was 6-of-15 from the field, 2-of-6 from the three-point line and 9-of-11 at the free throw line. In addition, Jones added three assists and a steal in the victory.

Jones returned on Saturday to net a game-high 26 points with six rebounds in the Knights’ 86-77 win over Charleston. She had four assists and a steal and was 6-of-13 from the field, 3-of-6 from the three-point line and 11-of-12 at the free throw line.

Bellarmine (2-0) will next face St. Mary’s (TX) and St. Francis (IN) at the USI Thanksgiving Classic this weekend in Evansville, Ind.

Other top performers in the GLVC last week included Kentucky Wesleyan’s Kristen Rowe, Illinois-Springfield’s Paulina Pogorzelski, Lewis’ Jenny Turpel, Maryville’s Abby Duethman, Quincy’s Courtney Shuman, Rockhurst’s Chrissy Sarcone, Southern Indiana’s Lauren Meneghetti, UIndy’s Samantha Meissel and UW-Parkside’s Brittany Hogen.
