The University of Findlay men’s basketball team, ranked second in the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) NCAA Division II poll, captured their first Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) victory of the season with an 84-63 win over Northwood University on Thursday, December 2 in Midland, Michigan. The win gives the Oilers a 6-0 record on the year with a 1-0 mark in the league.
The Oilers came out firing on all cylinders, racing out to a 42-30 on the strength of an 8-of-12 showing from the three point line.
In the second half, the Oilers continued to their hot shooting and ended up connecting on a season-high 13-of-24 (54.2%) shots from the three point line. Overall, they were successful on 28-of-53 (52.8%) field goal attempts and came away with 12 steals on the defensive side of the ball.
Senior guard Nathan Hyde tied his season-high with 25 points, the second straight game he has recorded that total, and hit 5-of-6 three pointers and 8-of-10 shots overall in the game.
Sophomore guard Aaron Robinson added a season-high 19 points while senior forward Tyler Sparks contributed a season-high 11 points in the win as well.
Junior guard Kyle Caiola also reached double figures with ten points while freshman guard Sean Samsel came off the bench to hit three, three pointers en route to nine points.
The Timberwolves were led by Booker Stoudmire’s 18 points.
The Oilers will be back in action again on December 7 when they host Illinois-Springfield at 7:30 p.m. in Croy Gymnasium.
