Bloomsburg University Falls to Penn State in Wrestling

BLOOMSBURG—The sixth-rank Penn State Nittany Lion wrestling won the first nine bouts of the night to beat Bloomsburg University, 41-3, on Friday night in front of packed house of 2,374 fans at the Nelson Field House.

Penn State used back-to-back falls at 133 and 141 to race out to a 15-0 and were never threatened. The Huskies lone win came at 197 pounds when Richard Perry (Meriden, CT, Middletown) posted a 7-4 win over Justin Ortega.

Bloomsburg goes to 3-1 with the loss, while Penn State goes to 1-0 for the season. The Huskies are back in action Saturday, Nov. 20 at the Navy Classic.

Match by Match

125 – Martellotti jumped out to an early lead in the first period with a takedown but Boylan was able to escape, leaving the score 2-1 after the first period. Boylan scored an escape point to tie the match at 2-2 after the second period, but Martellotti was able to escape early in the third period and add another takedown to win the match 5-3.

133 – Pearsall scored an early takedown before pinning Wilcox at the2:59 mark.

141- Alton scored two early takedowns before pinning Shingara at the 0:54 mark.

149 – There was no scoring after the first period. Roosa got on the board first in the second period with an escape, leaving the score at 1-0 after two periods. English scored an escape in the third to tie the match at 1-1 after regulation. English had a reversal and a 3-point near fall in the first tiebreaker period to win the match 8-4.

157 - Taylor had four takedowns and two 3-point near falls in the first to lead 14-3 after one period. Taylor added two more takedowns in the second to win the match by technical fall 20-5 at the 4:57 mark.

165 - There was no scoring in the first period. Veltre got on the board first in the second period with an escape to lead 1-0 after two. Kemerer had an escape and a takedown in the third to win the match 3-2.

174 - Ruth took early control of the match, scoring three takedowns and a 2-point near fall to lead 8-2 after one period. He added an escape and two more takedowns to lead 13-3 after the second. Ruth scored two takedowns and a 3-point near fall in the third period to win the match by technical fall 20-4 at 6:16.

184 - Wright scored an early takedown but Graham had an escape to leave the score at 2-1 after the first period. Wright had a takedown early in the second before pinning Graham at the 3:07 mark.

197 - Perry got out to an early lead after a takedown to lead 2-1 after one. Ortega had an escape in the second to tie the score at 2-2 after the second period. Perry scored two takedowns in the third to win the match 7-4.

285 – Wade had a takedown in the first to lead 2-0 after the first period. He added an escape and a takedown to lead 5-0 after two. Wade had a takedown in the third to win the match 8-0 with riding time.
