Top Seeded No. 11 Women’s Volleyball Sweeps Drury In GLVC Quarterfinals

Lauren Seliga posts a double-double

ROMEOVILLE, Ill. – No. 11 Lewis women’s volleyball cruised to a 3-0 (25-21, 25-19, 25-21) victory over Drury on Friday evening at Neil Carey Arena in the quarterfinals of the Great Lakes Valley Conference Tournament.

The No. 1 seeded Flyers received big contributions from sophomore Carly Perschnick (Dwight, Ill./Dwight Township/Nova Southeastern) and senior Lauren Seliga (St. Louis, Mo./Nerinx) who had 13 and 10 kills, respectively. Seliga also delivered 10 digs to post the double-double.

GLVC Player of the Year senior Rachel Ruedi (Mahomet, Ill./Mahomet Seymour) added  31 assists as the Flyers posted a .292 attack percentage on the night. No. 8 seeded Drury (22-13) was led by Alex Smith who had a team-high 10 kills.

Lewis didn’t trail in the match until the third set. Drury opened an 11-6 lead but an 8-3 Lewis run knotted the match at 14. Drury scored consecutive points to tie the score at 21 and force Lewis to ask for time. Following the break Lewis finished the match with four consecutive points. Perschnick had three kills in the final push.

Lewis (24-4) advances to the semifinal round on Saturday. The Flyers will face No. 25 Missouri-St. Louis on Saturday at 7:30 p.m. The Tritons of Missouri-St. Louis were the only team to defeat Lewis in conference play this season.

Indianapolis and Southern Indiana will play in the other semifinal. First serve for that match is 5 p.m. at Neil Carey Arena.
