Columbus State Women’s Soccer Selected As Top Seed in NCAA Tournament Southeast Region

Indianapolis, IN – The NCAA Division II Women’s Soccer Committee announced the field of 48 teams for the 2010 NCAA Division II Women’s Soccer Championship on Monday, with three Peach Belt Conference schools being selected.  This marks only the second time that the PBC has had three teams selected to the field, with the last time coming in 2008. Columbus State was selected as the top seed in the Southeast Region.

The Lady Cougars capped off an impressive run to close out the 2010 regular season, capturing the Peach Belt Conference Championship with a 4-2 win over North Georgia on Sunday.  CSU enters the NCAA tournament with a record of 19-1-1 on the year, winners of 10 consecutive matches.

Columbus State and the John Walden Soccer Complex will serve as the host site for the Southeast Regional First and Second Round matches for the fourth consecutive year.  On Friday, South Atlantic Conference champion Lenoir-Rhyne (16-2-1) will take on Conference Carolinas foe Belmont Abbey (17-1-3). Lenoir-Rhyne and Belmont Abbey enter the weekend as the fourth and fifth seed’s, respectively.

In Friday’s other Southeast Regional first round matchup, the Braves of UNC-Pembroke (15-3-2) will take on Pieffer (13-5-2).  UNC-Pembroke enters the weekend as the third seed while the Falcons of Pieffer are seeded sixth. Armstrong Atlantic will take on the winner of UNC-Pembroke/ Pieffer match on Sunday at 2 pm.

The Lady Cougars will face the winner of the Lenoir-Rhyne/Belmont Abbey matchup on Sunday, November 14 at 12 pm.

The two finalists in each region will advance to the third round to be played on Friday, November 19. The quarterfinal matchup will be on Sunday, November 21 against the champion from the South Regional. Both the third and quarterfinal rounds will hosted by the highest remaining seed from the South Region.  The semifinals and championships will be played on December 2 and 4 at Bellarmine University in Louisville, Kentucky.
