Bobcat Men Drop Second Straight, 82-74

ANDERSON, S.C. – A late surge upended the Georgia College men’s basketball team (2-2) Tuesday night at Anderson University (3-3) as the Bobcats lost their second-straight game 82-74.

Junior guard Jared Holmes (Indanapolis) led the Bobcats in scoring for the third straight game, hitting for 16 points, half of which came from the charity stripe. Holmes has tallied double-digit scoring in each game this season, the only ‘Cat to do so.

Senior subs aided Holmes, as forward Reece Wiedeman (Suwanee, Ga.) tallied a double-double with 13 points and 10 boards, while Andre Mikell (Snellville, Ga.) put in 13 points as well. Junior Ryan Aquino (Roswell, Ga.) added 11 points.

The Bobcats led by four off an Aquino jumper with 6:09 left for a 66-62 lead. The Trojans responded with a 20-8 run through the end of the game.

GC shot well, hitting 53 percent (28-53) from the floor and 70 percent (14-20) from the free-throw line, but turned the ball over three more times (13-10), lost the offensive rebound battle 12-7, and gave up twice as many threes as the Bobcats made (8-4).

The Trojans were led by Trey Britton pouring in 24 points on 10-of-14 from the floor with seven boards.

Wiedeman also swatted five shots tonight, coming two off the school’s single-game record set by Theodore Sanders (1987-89) in the 1987-88 season. The five blocks also move Wiedeman past Derrick Nicholson (1997-2000, 01-02) into eighth place in career blocks with 57.

The Bobcats are back in action against the University of West Florida (1-2) Friday, Nov. 26 at 6:30 p.m. eastern, as part of the UM Coca-Cola Classic, hosted by the University of Montevallo. The Argos most recently lost at the University of Alaska-Fairbanks 84-73 Nov. 20.
