Varela's 18th-Place Finish Leads Drury To Sixth In GLVC Women's Cross Country Championships

KENOSHA, Wis. - An 18th-place finish by sophomore Brenda Varela boosted Drury to a sixth-place team finish at the Great Lakes Valley Conference Women's Cross Country Championships held here on Saturday.

Bellarmine won the team title with 52 points, two more than runner-up Southern Indiana. Wisconsin-Parkside was third with 94 points in the 12-team field.

Drury finished with 172 points, as Varela crossed the line in 23 minutes, two seconds in the 6K event. Kathryn Hague, a senior from Lewis, was the individual winner in 21:29.

Senior Tia Young was second among the DU runners, finishing in 33rd place in 23:49, followed by freshman Rebecca Senn in 34th at 23:50, freshman Katelyn Wojan in 40th in 23:56 and sophomore Lindsay Dukewits in 24:09 to finish 47th to complete the Panthers' scoring.

Drury is back in action on Saturday, November 20, participating in the NCAA-II Midwest Regional in Louisville, Ky.
