VB: Concordia 3 - St. Cloud State 0

SAINT CLOUD, Minn. - For the eight straight year CU has won at least a share of the NSIC title following the Golden Bears (24-4, 18-0 NSIC) sweep of Saint Cloud State (12-14, 7-11 NSIC) on Saturday afternoon, 25-10, 25-16, 25-14. CU has won the NSIC every year under Head Coach Brady Starkey. CU has now won 14 straight matches. They also extended their regular season NSIC streak to 70 matches.

Kara Pioske led the way offensively with 11 kills and Taylor Fieldsted had 18 digs to lead the defense. The Golden Bears hit .352 on the afternoon and had four players with double digit kills. In addition to Pioske's 11; Cassie Haag, Kayla Koenecke and Emily Palkert all had ten. Koenecke had the most impressive hitting night with a .450 percentage, along with five assists and six digs. Megan Carlson had another quality all around night with seven kills, zero errors and hit .412 along with having 15 digs and four blocks.

Amanda Konetchy had 38 assists and nine digs falling just short of a double double. Her 38 digs in three sets were on march with her season average for the year. As a team CU hit .352 with just 11 errors on the night in 105 swings.

In the first set CU had a run of 13-2 in order to separate themselves from a 6-6 tie to a 19-8 lead. The Golden Bears went on to win set one 25-10. In set two the Golden Bears jumped out to an commanding 12-3 lead early in the set. The Huskies were not able to get back in the set and the two teams traded points back and forth. CU won set two 25-16. Concordia jumped out again early in set three getting out to a 10-2 lead. St. Cloud State got back within three at 12-9 but were not able to get any closer as CU scored 13 of the next 18 to win set three 25-14.

Concordia will be home next weekend for their final two regular season games as they take on Northern State and Mary on Friday and Saturday. One more win would secure a sole NSIC title for the Golden Bears.
