WBB: Central Washington 78, Dominican 61

ELLENSBURG, Wash. — Senior guard Kelsey Janusch led all players with a season-high 21 points but the Dominican University of Calfornia women's basketball team fell 78-61 to Central Washington University in non-conference action and the final night of the Wildcat Classic on Saturday.

Sophomore forward Melissa Wise put Dominican (0-4) on the scoreboard first with a pair of free throws but the undefeated Wildcats (3-0) answered with 12 straight points. Five minutes into the game, the Lady Penguins found themselves trailing by 17. Midway through the half, Dominican trimmed the lead to four points and pulled within a point when Jansuch hit a jumper. The Wildcats called a timeout and came out of the huddle focused, keeping Dominican from scoring in the half's final four minutes while building the lead back to 13.

Dominican never got closer than eight points in the second half and at one point fell behind by 24 before trimming the final defecit to 17.

Janusch had another stellar night at the free throw line, going 9-of-9. She finished the Wildcat Classic a perfect 16-of-16 from the field and is now 26-of-27 on the season. Wise, junior guard Taki Te Koi and sophomore guard Kimi Nakamura eached added eight points apiece in the loss. Senior forward Shawna Bryant pulled down a team-high seven rebounds.

Central Washington was led by guard Luv Rattler's 15 points. Forward Kelsi Jacobson added a dozen points and center Stacy Albrecht scored 10 points. Amber Moser led all players with 10 rebounds.

Dominican returns home before heading off to Alaska-Fairbanks for a Thanksgiving matchup with the Nanooks as part of the Mt. McKinley Bank North Star Invitational. The Lady Penguins will also face Fort Lewis and Mercyhurst while in Alaska.
