San Francisco – The Cal State Stanislaus women's basketball team finished 1-1 at the CCAA/PacWest Challenge after falling to #21 Grand Canyon 62-70 Saturday.
Leading the Warriors once again was senior Katie Busi with 19 points. Busi was 5-5 from the foul line and 2-3 from the arch.
Stanislaus' record falls to 4-4 overall. The ranked Antelopes finished 2-0 in San Francisco with a record of 10-1 overall.
Grand Canyon took an early lead over the Warriors, but were unable to keep more than a ten point lead. The Warriors took the lead with 6:18 left in the first half after a good foul shot by Busi. For the final six minutes the two teams battled back and for control over the half, but in the end the Warriors finished the half on top with a 31-29 score.
After an early turnover by Cal State Stanislaus in the second half, the Antelopes gained momentum and control once again. With 4:46 left in regulation Grand Canyon took an 11-point lead over the Warriors, the biggest deficit of the game so far. The Warriors closed in once again, coming within four points of the Antelopes with 00:49 and a good layup by Stanislaus' Lauren Godde, but in the end could not hold off a strong Grand Canyon offense.
Andreanna Marshall had another double-digit night for the Warriors with 10 points. Also, contributing offensively for the Warriors was Theresa Henderson with nine points, Christin Gowan with seven points, and Lauren Godde with six.
Defensively, Jeanette Rowe led the team for the first time this season with nine rebounds. Three Warriors – Busi, L. Godde, and Marshall – each recorded five rebounds.
Jallisa Butler recorded a leading double-double with 20 points and 16 rebounds for the Antelopes. '
Samantha Murphy followed closely behind with 16 points and Maylinn Smith had 15 points.
