Bobcat Basketball Hosts Field Trip for Pre-K Youngsters

MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. – In an effort to keep Baldwin County youth active and interested in sport, Georgia College basketball and women’s basketball coach Maurice Smith partnered with the Early Learning Center Pre-Kindergarten staff to host a field trip. The Bobcats hosted the trip for the youngsters this past Friday morning, Nov. 5 at Georgia College’s Centennial Center.

“This was a great chance for the kids to meet some of the basketball athletes here at Georgia College,” said coach Smith. “This was good to get the youngsters involved in our basketball programs. It was really all about fun for these kids and it was a great role model program because they look up to our players and our players can realize how fortunate they are to have young children in the community that look up to them.”

The kids came and did activities with members of both the men’s and women’s basketball teams. They played “chase the Bobcat,” which is a simulation of Duck, Duck, Goose. They also played “shoe mountain,” which has all the kids put their shoes in the middle of the court and they have to make a tricky pass, then find their shoes and get them on before anyone else does.

Senior forward Josh Hurst (Athens, Ga.) put on a show for the kids with some highflying dunk theatrics. Overall it was a great day for the community and for Bobcat basketball.

Both teams open up at home Nov. 17 with the women at 5:30 against USC Aiken and the men to follow against Carver Bible College.
