UC San Diego Finishes Fourth At Triton Invitational

SAN DIEGO - Competing in their final tournament of the fall season, the UC San Diego men's golf team finished in fourth place out of four teams competing at the first annual Triton Invitational at the Riverwalk Golf Club on Tuesday. UCSD carded a 295 in the final round, but could not overtake third place Saint Martin's University.

Sonoma State, which entered the day with a commanding 13-stroke lead, cruised to the team title after finishing with a final tally of 10-under par, 854. The Seawolves carded a 287 on Tuesday, which was the best round of the day.

Cal State San Bernardino finished second at 8-over par, 872 following a 289 on Tuesday, while Saint Martin's was third at 882 (296) and UCSD was fourth with total of 884.

Senior Keith Okasaki was UCSD's top individual finisher, carding an even 72 on Tuesday to finish at 2-over par, 218 overall. Okasaki, who shot a 71 in the opening round on Monday, finished tied for seventh place individually.

Freshman Jacob Williams, who led the Tritons at 141 after two rounds, was the next-lowest finisher, claiming 10th place with a final tally of 3-over par, 219 (78). He finished four strokes in front of teammate David Smith, who was tied for 14th at 7-over par, 223 after carding a 70 on Tuesday, UCSD's lowest round of the day. Fredrik Palmer wrapped up the scoring for the Tritons at 229 (75), which was good enough for 25th place.

Lewis Simon paced the Tritons "B Team", with a final total of 223 (76), while Anubhav Rastogi finished at 226 (74), Richard Morris carded a 234 (77) and Daniel De La Torre posted a tally of 241 (79).

Individual medalist honors went to Cal State San Bernardino's Kenny Pigman, who finished at 14-under par, 202 after firing a 64 on Tuesday. Pigman, who also shot a 65 in the second round, recorded the lowest two rounds of the tournament and finished with a five-stroke lead over Sonoma State's Janssen Todd. Todd wrapped up play at 9-under par, 207 to claim second place.

Sonoma's Patrick Bauer, who finished tied for third at 3-under par, also had one of the tournament big highlights, carding a hole-in-one on the second hole on Tuesday.

Head coach Mike Wydra's squad will return to competition in February with the Cal State San Marcos Invitational in Bonsall.
