Patriot Pair named to All-PBC Volleyball Team

FLORENCE, S.C. – Francis Marion University senior libero Kelsie Deaton and senior middle blocker Mallory Eggert have been named to the Peach Belt Conference’s 2010 All-Conference Volleyball Team.

Both were selected to the seven-member second team.

Deaton, a native of Martinsville, Ind., ranks second in the Peach Belt (and 28th nationally) with 5.23 digs per set.  She also posted a .946 reception percentage with only 45 errors in 831 total receptions.  Twice during the 2010 campaign, she was named the PBC Specialist of the Week.  She recorded 14 matches this season of 20+ digs and 31 for her career.

A four-year starter, she finished her career fourth all-time in the PBC and second at FMU with 1,886 digs.  Twice during her career she has named to the Peach Belt Conference Presidential Honor Roll and the FMU Swamp Fox Athletic-Academic Honor Roll.

Eggert, a 6-1 native of Lake Elmo, Minn., ranks third in the PBC for blocks per game (0.91) and sixth in hitting percentage (.267).  She was third on the FMU squad with 26 service aces and despite her blocking role averaged 0.91 digs per set.  She recorded three matches in PBC play this season with a hitting percentage above .555, nine matches with at least five total blocks, and seven matches with double-figure kills. She played in 111 of the 113 individual games this past season.

Also a four-year starter, Eggert appeared in 124 career matches and registered totals of 719 kills and 418 blocks.  Her block total ranks ninth on the all-time Peach Belt Conference list. She served as a team captain in 2009 and 2010.

Francis Marion finished with a 15-16 record and lost a heart-breaking five-set decision to second-seeded University of Montevallo in the quarterfinal round of the PBC Tournament.

Deaton is a product of Martinsville (Ind.) High School, while Eggert attended Mahtomedi and Woodbury high schools.
