Five Lady Cougars Named to Daktronics All-Southeast Region Team

ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. − The 2010 Daktronics NCAA Division II All-Southeast Region Women’s Soccer Teams were released Tuesday. Columbus State was represented the most with five student-athletes chosen, including first team honorees Stephanie Lowery and Stephanie Parrish.  Lowery was also selected as the Region Player of the Year.  Kim Gaughan, Jordan McKenzie and Kate Walton join them as second team selections.

Lowery was selected as the co-Player of the Year in the Peach Belt Conference and was also a First Team All-Conference member this season. She leads the Peach Belt in goals with 19, goals per game (0.86), points (43), points per game (1.95) and game-winning goals with seven.  Parrish was also a First Team All-Conference selection finishing second on the team in points (33) and goals (13) while tying for the team lead with seven assists.  Those totals placed her third, tied for third and tied for sixth, respectively, in the conference.

Gaughan and McKenzie were part of backline that was tremendous all season.  The duo helped Columbus State post 15 shutouts, just one shy of the school record.  They allowed more than one goal in a game just three times during the year.  McKenzie was tied for the team lead with seven assists while also scoring the game-winning goal against NCAA Tournament participant Pfeiffer University.  Gaughan registered two assists on the year.  Walton controlled the midfield for the Lady Cougars with stellar distribution offensively and provided solid defensive support.  The senior tied for the team lead with seven assists including a career high three assists against North Georgia during the regular season.  She also tallied five goals on the year, two of which were against regionally ranked opponents.

The Daktronics NCAA Division II All-Southeast Region Teams are voted on by the sports information directors of the Southeast Region. The region is comprised of the Conference Carolinas, the Peach Belt Conference, and the South Atlantic Conference.  Members of the first team are now eligible for Daktronics NCAA Division II All-America honors.  The All-American team will be announced on December 1.
