UMSL Volleyball Receives At-Large Bid to NCAA Regionals

INDIANAPOLIS, IND., November 14, 2010 - For the first time since 1995, the University of Missouri-St. Louis volleyball team has earned a berth to the 2010 NCAA Division II Volleyball Tournament.

The Tritons watched as the NCAA announced their name as one of 64 teams in the field. The bid is just the third in program history with the 1991 squad also reaching the NCAA Regionals

UMSL, which is ranked 25th nationally and stands at 20-8 overall, earned an at-large bid and will be the sixth-seed in the Midwest Regional . The Tritons will face third-seeded and No. 11 ranked Lewis (26-4) in first round action. UMSL swept the Flyers during regular season Great Lakes Valley Conference action, while Lewis handed the Tritons a 3-1 loss this weekend in the GLVC Tournament semifinals.

The Midwest Regional will be held in Hillsdale, Mich., on the campus of top-seeded Hillsdale College. The Chargers are ranked No. 9 nationally and own a 28-1 record. They will face No. 8 seed Southern Indiana (18-11). Other first round games include No. 2 seed and 13th ranked Grand Valley State (23-6) against No. 7 seed Northern Kentucky (20-13) and No. 4 seed and 19th ranked Indianapolis (25-8) against No. 5 seed and 21st ranked Northern Michigan (22-6)

A GLVC-record five teams are represented in the regional.
