UAA men drop Alumni, 111-68

ANCHORAGE – Newcomer Taylor Rohde had 24 points and nine rebounds Saturday to pace the Alaska Anchorage men’s basketball team to a 111-68 exhibition victory over the Seawolf Alumni at the Wells Fargo Sports Complex.

Returning All-Great Northwest Athletic Conference first-team wing Brandon Walker scored 21 of his 23 points in the first half and added five steals in the victory – UAA’s final tune-up before the regular season begins next week at Disney’s Division II Tip-Off Classic in Anaheim, Calif.

Despite the final margin, the alumni hung tough in the early going Saturday, scoring the first eight points and grabbing a 13-3 advantage in the first six minutes. But the current Seawolves would come back quickly, tying it 15-15 on a Rohde layup at the 9:35 mark and taking a 51-30 lead at halftime.

Rohde, a 6-9 junior transfer from Arizona State, shot 11 of 16 from the floor and grabbed six of his rebounds on the offensive end. Walker, a 6-3 senior, shot 9 of 14 overall and 5 of 8 from three-point land.

The alumni were led by 17 points on 6-of-10 shooting from guard Jon Madison (1996-2000) and 14 points and three assists from guard Chris Bryant, a member of UAA 2007-08 Final 4 team. Guard Buddy Bailey (2006-07), who handled much of the coaching duties for the alums, also tallied double figures with 12 points.

The current Seawolves put four players in double figures as senior forward Casey Robinson chipped in 15 points, eight rebounds and four assists, while freshman Kyle Fossman had 12 points on 4-of-4 three-point shooting and four assists. Senior point guard Drew Robinson dished a game-high seven assists.

UAA begins action in Anaheim on Friday, Nov. 12 against West Region rival Dixie State (Utah) at 11 a.m. AST. That game, along with all Seawolf men’s action this year, can be heard live in Anchorage on FM-93.7 KAFC.
