Mars Hill loses to Shaw, 78-72

Emile scores season-high 31 points

MARS HILL, N.C. - Sammy Emile scored a season-high 31 points for Mars Hill, but the Lions lost to Shaw, 78-72, inside Stanford Arena. The Bears improve to 4-1, while the Lions fall to 4-3.

Emile scored 21 points after halftime. He was 10-16 from the field and 9-9 from the free throw line.

Mars Hill led by nine points, 34-25, with 57 seconds left in the first half off a layup by Randolph Howell. The Lions maintained a 34-29 advantage at intermission.

Tarron Stewart added 12 points for Mars Hill. Dion Malachi finished with seven points, 10 rebounds and five blocks.

Raheem Smith led Shaw with 23 points. Tony Smith and Sheridan Price had 12 and 10 points, respectively.

The Bears led for most of the second half and had a 12 point upper hand, 59-47, with 11:01 left in the game after a trey by Smith. The second period was a sloppy affair as both teams collected 15 team fouls a piece. The Lions were hit with three technical fouls, and the Bears were tagged with one.

Mars Hill will host Anderson on Saturday. Tipoff is slated for 4 p.m.
