The women’s game, the home opener for first-year head coach Kate Glusko’s squad, will tip off at 5:30 p.m. in the Smith University Center. The men’s contest will follow at 7:30 p.m. Admission is $6 for adults and $4 for students with FMU students being admitted free with a valid identification card.
The men’s game will be broadcast on WWFN The Fan, 100.1 FM, while both contests will be televised live on Channel 11 of Florence’s Time Warner Cable system as well as streamed on the internet at http://fmu.nmtvsports.com/
Turner, a 6-5 native of Richmond, Va., averaged 18.7 points, 7.7 rebounds, and 2.3 assists per game as the Patriots won their first three contests. Turner connected on 58.1 percent of his field goal attempts and 87.0 percent of his free throws. His best outing came on Saturday as he posted a double-double – a career-high equaling 24 points and 13 rebounds – in a 94-91 victory over St. Andrews Presbyterian College.
The Patriot women are 1-0 after a season-opening 78-68 win at Fayetteville State University 11 days ago. Sophomore guard Courtney Mealing scored a career-high 29 points, while senior Shannon Singleton-Bates added 19 points. Francis Marion leads the all-time series with Morris 8-1, although the two programs have met only once over the past 19 seasons: a 119-49 FMU victory on Nov. 25, 2008.
The Lady Hornets, an NAIA member program, are 1-7 following an 80-59 loss at Augusta State University on Saturday.
In addition to Turner, the FMU men (3-0) are also led by senior forward Simel Boyd (17.7 ppg, 9.3 rpg). Francis Marion leads the all-time men’s series with Morris 18-10, including 13 straight wins.
The Morris men have opened their season with a 1-2 mark, beating Southern Wesleyan University and losing to Emmanuel College and Coker College.
