Saint Anselm Falls by 72-48 Final to Bentley

Waltham, Mass. (November 23) -- On Wednesday night at the Dana Center, Saint Anselm dropped a 72-48 to Bentley University in Northeast-10 Conference women's basketball action. The loss was the second straight for the Hawks and first in Northeast-10 play.

Led by eight straight points from junior Epiphany Smith (Springdale, Ark.), Saint Anselm built an 8-4 lead thru the game's first 2:48 of play. The game stayed even before the Falcons took their first lead of the game with 12:47 left in the first half on a corner three-pointer from Courtney Finn. Bentley pushed the lead to as many as five before the Hawks made it an 18-17 margin midway thru the period.

From that point until halftime, Bentley held the Hawks to just four points on two field goals as the Falcons closed the period on a 23-4 run for the 41-21 halftime lead. In the second half, the Hawks cut the lead down to 16 points on two occasions, but could get no closer as the Falcons pulled away for the victory.

Smith led the Hawks in scoring with 13 points, while Bentley was paced by 19 points from Elise Caira and 18 from Jacqui Brugliera.

With the loss, Saint Anselm is now 3-2 overall and 1-1 in the Northeast-10, while Bentley improves to 2-1 overall and is a perfect 2-0 in the league.

Saint Anselm is back in action on Sunday, November 28 as the Hawks play host to No. 10 nationally-ranked Franklin Pierce University. Tipoff is set for 1:30 p.m. at Al Grenert Court at Stoutenburgh Gym.
