Smith posts double-double for Mars Hill
MARS HILL, N.C. - The Mars Hill volleyball team outlasted Montreat in five sets inside Stanford Arena. The Lions won by scores of 25-19, 17-25, 26-28, 25-23 and 15-8 to improve to 12-11 overall. The Lady Cavaliers drop to 25-10 overall.
Becca Smith posted a double-double with 11 digs and 31 assists for Mars Hill. Maggie Murphy (35), Hillary Gambrell (18), Rachel Rheinheimer (15) and Kelsi Flora (12) also posted double-digit dig totals.
Laura Ann Huskey and Evie Tafunai slammed home 19 and 18 kills, respectively. Sarah Paquette dished out 18 assists.
Allison Baumgartner (14 kills, 26 digs), Natalie Nieman (11 digs, 47 assists) and Alyssa Kaufman (12 kills, 15 digs) each posted double-doubles for Montreat. Hattie Lewis had 13 kills.
Hannah Scholz recorded 20 digs. Ellen Goodman followed up with 10 digs.
The Lions served up seven aces compared to only three for the Lady Cavaliers.
Mars Hill will conclude its regular season with Senior Day on Saturday against Milligan. The match will begin at 2 p.m.
