The first half was a hotly contested one as the two teams combined for eight lead changes and five ties. An 8-2 run by the Fighting Knights midway through the period carried LU to an 18-13 lead. Patterson led the way with four points during the four minute span. Karolina Bazua added to the Lynn advantage with a trey from the left corner, putting her team ahead 26-21.
Unfortunately, FAU countered with a 22-9 run to end the half on top 43-35. Kaylan Dinkins then gave the Owls a double-digit lead 4:10 into the second period leading into what would be an 18-point advantage.
Playing with just seven bodies, the Knights would not give up so easily. Dixon led the charge with a pair of long-range three-pointers as LU keyed up on a 15-2 run to cut the deficit to five points. But six missed shots and two failed free-throw attempts ended the Blue & White’s comeback bid.
Lynn shot 38.9% from the field and was solid 37.5% from downtown. Florida Atlantic hit on 50% of its shots but was a mere 45.1% from the charity stripe.
The Fighting Knights open their season Friday, November 12, at 5 p.m. when they host 2008 NCAA Division II National Champions Northern Kentucky. Fans can follow all of the action live by logging on to www.LynnFightingKnights.com and selecting “Game Central.”
