Soy named Academic All-American

MARYVILLE, Mo.—Northwest Missouri State junior wide receiver Jake Soy has been named to the 2010 ESPN Academic All-America Football Team as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). Soy is a second-team selection.

It’s the first Academic All-America award for Soy and the third year in a row that a Bearcat has earned Academic All-America honors. Soy is a business management major who maintains a 3.81 cumulative grade point average.

Soy was named National Wide Receiver of the Year last season following a record-breaking performance that included 27 touchdown catches and 1,559 yards. He’s a repeat first-team All-MIAA choice in 2010. Soy leads the Bearcats and ranks 25th nationally with 1,015 yards receiving. His 10 touchdown grabs give him 38 in his career – two shy of the MIAA record.

Soy is one of four wide receivers named to the Academic All-America team and one of two representing NCAA Division II. The college division is comprised of NCAA Division II, Division III and NAIA football-playing members.
