West Florida Jumps to No. 7 in NSCAA National Poll

Argos Return to the Top 10 for Postseason Play

KANSAS CITY, Kan. – The West Florida women’s soccer team jumped 10 spots to No. 7 in the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA)/HendrickCars.com national poll released on Tuesday.  The Argonauts, previously ranked No. 17, will head into the Gulf South Conference Tournament in the nation’s top 10 for fourth season in a row.

The Argonauts jumped ahead of South Region rival Rollins, as the Tars were previously ranked No. 7 and dropped to No. 13 this week.  UWF is also No. 1 in the NSCAA regional rankings, followed by Rollins at No. 2.  Florida Tech, ranked No. 24 in the national poll this week, came in at third in the region and is also tied with Nova Southeastern in the region.

As a team, West Florida leads the country at 4.44 goals per game, averaging over half a goal more than second place Grand Valley State (3.83).  Senior Shakira Duncan (Kingston, Jamaica/Darton) has taken over as the nation’s leader in goals (1.5) and points (3.56) per game after a huge week.  Duncan scored hat tricks in each of the team’s two games, and she also broke the school record in career goals and now stands at 60 in two seasons.

The Argonauts also have two of the nation’s top players in assists; junior Tina Murray (Kingston, Jamaica/Meridian CC) now ranks third in the country at 0.75 per game, and she is followed closely by sophomore Jodi-Ann Robinson (Richmond, British Columbia/Palmer Secondary School) at 0.72.

The Argos will kick off the GSC Tournament this Friday, Nov. 5 in the tournament semifinals at 1:30 p.m., and they will face either Christian Brothers or Harding depending on the result of the CBU-Harding match later today.  For information on all UWF Athletics, visit www.GoArgos.com.
